From a Kitchen Table to a Living Herbal Apothecary
Synergy Herbal Works began around a kitchen table with a love of herbalism, a desire to share knowledge, and a belief that plant medicine should be more accessible to the people who want to understand it.
What began simply has grown into two Tennessee apothecaries, a working farm, more than 498 organic and wildcrafted botanicals, handcrafted herbal products, consultations, classes, and a community where herbal knowledge is shared, practiced, and passed along.
But the heart of Synergy hasn't changed much at all.
We still believe in knowing the plants and where they come from. In taking the time to prepare them well. In asking questions, sharing what we know, and always being willing to learn more.
MEET SHERRI
The Herbalist Behind Synergy
Sherri Stickler, RH (AHG), is a Registered Herbalist with a background in nursing and years of study and experience in herbal medicine.
Her clinical background shaped the way she approaches herbalism today. She values traditional herbal wisdom alongside research, safety, and a deeper understanding of the plants themselves.
But Sherri also believes knowledge isn't very useful if people can't understand it. And that belief has shaped Synergy into a place where questions are welcomed and education is part of the experience.
Her work takes many forms—from teaching classes and working one-on-one with people to tending plants on the farm and developing preparations for the apothecary. At the heart of it all is a desire to make herbal knowledge practical, approachable, and useful in everyday life.
It Starts With the Plant
Before there is a tincture, tea, salve, syrup, or jar on an apothecary shelf, there is a plant.
Many of the plants used at Synergy begin right here on our Tennessee farm. We grow and tend herbs through the seasons, harvest them when they're ready, and dry or preserve them for use in the apothecary.
Of course, nearly 500 jars can't all be filled from one Tennessee farm. For the botanicals we don't grow ourselves, we carefully source organic and wildcrafted herbs from trusted sources. Some begin in our own soil, while others travel farther to reach us. No matter where they begin, we care about where they came from, how they were handled, and what eventually makes its way onto our shelves.
Made Here, Too
Growing the plants is only part of the story.
Many of those ingredients make their way from the farm into products we create at Synergy. Herbs are prepared for tinctures and blended into teas. Fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices fill jars for traditional preparations like fire cider. Other ingredients are used in syrups, oxymels, oils, salves, soaps, and other handcrafted products.
Even our goats are part of the process. We milk them on the farm and use their milk in handcrafted goat milk products.
Some preparations take days. Others take weeks. Herbs dry. Tinctures extract. Ingredients ferment. Each process is different depending on what we're making. It isn't the fastest way to fill a shelf, but staying close to the process means we know more about what goes into the products we make.
Education Is at the Heart of Synergy
We don't want to simply hand someone a bag of herbs or a bottle and send them on their way.
We want people to understand the plants.
Through classes, workshops, consultations, our growing Materia Medica, and everyday conversations inside the apothecary, we share practical herbal knowledge people can actually use.
That means talking about traditional uses and preparation methods, but also safety, responsible use, and knowing when an herb may or may not be appropriate.
You don't have to know the language of herbalism before you walk through our doors.
You can come with questions.
The People of Synergy
It takes many hands to care for an apothecary, and we're grateful for the people who bring their own knowledge, talents, and care to Synergy every day.
From tending plants and preparing herbal products to teaching, helping customers, keeping the shelves stocked, and handling the many things that happen behind the scenes, each person plays a part in what Synergy has become.
It has always been about more than what sits on the shelves. It's also about the people who grow, make, teach, learn, and welcome you through the door.
Meet Chancy
Chancy is the manager of the Synergy store in Sparta. Her hope is that everyone who walks through the doors can slow down, take a breath, and feel at home. She wants each person to know that they are cared for and supported, whatever they may be going through.
Her goal is to help people along their journey toward true healing.
Outside of Synergy, Chancy loves spending quiet time with the Lord, taking in the beauty of His creation, and enjoying time with her family. She also spends her days caring for the many chickens and ducks on her small homestead.
Meet Sammy
Sammy is the Team Lead at Synergy’s Cookeville location, where she helps keep things running smoothly while creating a welcoming and positive experience for everyone who walks through the door.
She loves connecting with people, and helping customers find products they’ll love. Her favorite Synergy product is the Heart Tonic Tea, which she’s always happy to recommend for those who are seeking to start their journey with Herbal Teas.
Outside of Synergy, Sammy is a full-time wedding photographer, so you can usually find her with a camera in hand on the weekends. When she isn’t working, she loves watching live theatre, traveling, and finding something new to create.
Meet Annie
Annie is the Manager of Manufacturing at Synergy, where she helps bring clean, health-focused products to life for people on their wellness journey.
With a longstanding passion for health and nutrition, she loves making a positive impact through making products to improve people’s health. Her favorite Synergy product is the Think tincture which is great for memory and brain fog.
Outside the office, you’ll find Annie hiking mountain trails, getting lost in a good mystery, or leveling up in her latest game. She is also a very proud mom to Katie who is a senior at TN Tech.
Meet Savannah
Savanah doesn't have an official title, mostly because she's too busy wearing all the hats. She works behind the scenes problem-solving, streamlining, organizing, and occasionally wondering how she ended up in charge of something.
A Cookeville-area native and Tennessee Tech grad, Savanah earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology. She became a client of Sherri's in 2022 and jumped at the opportunity to join the Restored Wellness and Synergy Herbal Works team after working in healthcare until 2023. Her healthcare background gave her a firsthand look at what modern medicine can do, while also sparking her interest in alternative approaches to wellness. She loves learning, helping people, and figuring out how to make things better.
Outside of work, she's usually hanging out with friends and family, shopping local, or holding an iced matcha latte like it's part of her personality.
What We Believe
We believe plants deserve our respect and curiosity.
We believe people deserve to understand what they're putting in and on their bodies.
We believe traditional herbal knowledge is worth preserving and sharing.
We believe research, safety, and continued learning belong in the conversation.
We believe quality matters, even when doing something well takes longer.
And we believe a good apothecary should be a place where you can walk through the door, ask a question, and stay awhile.
Come See What We're Growing
