Also known as the “toothache plant,” spilanthes has a zesty, tingling flavor that creates a numbing sensation on the tongue. Fresh or dried flowers and leaves are sometimes added to salads, teas, or tinctures, bringing both novelty and wellness value.
Traditionally, spilanthes has been valued for supporting oral health, easing tooth discomfort, and stimulating saliva and digestion. It is also considered an immune-supportive herb, used in seasonal tonics and bitters blends.
Precautions: Not recommended during pregnancy. May cause mouth tingling or mild numbness when consumed. Use with caution in individuals with allergies to related plants in the daisy family (Asteraceae).
